Recently started reading this book thanks to luke smith. The book is a critique of the modern approach to doing science. The author argues that the approach used nowadays is impeding our progress and is stopping us from doing good science. He also argues in favor of allowing “inferior” scientific theories, to continue existing, for the possibility of them ending up being valid cannot be discarded. He also compares doing science to being creative, compares it to the arts and the like, and states that those who do science should be allowed this much freedom when doing this “sciencing”.
This is at least my interpretation of the book. Throughout the book the author uses the main example of the motion of the earth, which was thought to be a theory proven false at the time, ended up being the correct theory after it was revived by followers of Copernicus.
All in all it has been an excellent read so far. Definitely made me rethink how i treated science, made me realize just how fallicable and human it is, that it is not perfect, and not and end all be all when it comes to anything.
