Getting visual novels to run on mobile devices

this tutorial goes through the process of getting visual novel games and other types of games to run on mobile devices (iOS/Android)

Precursor info

This tutorial shows how to get games for the SonyPlaystation PSP, running on mobile devices, and where to get the games. This may be considered piracy, proceed at your own risk.

Installation (iOS)

In this example i will be installing the visual novel

“Steins;Gate” onto my iPhone, but a section on android installs will appear later. Picture of Steinsgate running on my iPhone

For this installation, you will need the following on your iPhone

AltStore
8GB of free space (recommended)
a PC (Mac/Windows/Linux)

Step 1: Installing AltStore

If you do not have AltStore, go ahead and install it here. Or read the docs here

The installation process is fairly simple. AltStore needs you to connect to a desktop computer once every week or so, to extend your access to the programs that we will download soon to make everything work.

Step 2 Installing ppsspp

PPSSPP is the program that makes the whole thing work.

It’s a PSP emulator that runs both on android and on iOS.

However, due to emulation technically being piracy, its not available on the app store, hence we must sideload it via AltStore.

To sideload the program you must download the IPA file from it from the official PPSSPP site. It should have a .ipa file extension (its really just a zip archive) you can download it here

After downloading the app and sideloading it via altstore, you should see a PPSSPP app on your homescreen.

Step 3: getting the games going

I downloaded my game from here Since its an iso file running inside an emulator on a mobile operating system, viruses and the like are not a concern to me, and shouldn’t be to you.

After downloading and extracting the file, it SHOULD automatically appear in ppsspp. if not, open files, and place the file in the ppsspp dir. then navigate to /private/var/mobile/Containers/data/Application/APPIDSTRINGHERE/Documents.

Installation on Android.

Installation on android should be fairly simple.

PPSSPP should be available on google play.

once downloaded, you can download the game from here Also, the PPSSPP emulator should be on FDROID.
